We’re going to use the Live Paint tool to colour up a piece of artwork. If you’ve not seen it, please refer to Part 1.
I’ve got this very basic cartoon of a shoe and I’d like to colour it up and give it some ‘go faster stripes’, a different colour toe-cap and an interesting heel area.

The first thing that I’ve done is add the stripes, the heel and toe line. As you’ll notice, I haven’t worried about staying within the shape of the shoe and for the stripes I’ve just put in rectangles.
I’m now going to select all the artwork and make it into a Live Paint object as we did in part 1 of this tutorial.
So, as we did before, go to Object > Live Paint > Make.
Click the Live Paint, Paint Bucket (ensuring that it’s set back to Paint Fills by double clicking it first and selecting this).
Choose your colour or pattern and experiment with filling the various areas of the graphic.
To delete the lines over the edges of the graphic, select Live Paint Selection Tool (by holding down the Live Paint Bucket option on your toolbar). Use this tool to select fills, strokes or both (depending on the setting when you double click Live Paint Selection tool like you did before to change Fills / Strokes), and use delete / backspace to delete!
Hopefully this will speed up your illustration work and you will end up creating a piece of art that is not as tacky as mine!
